The Seereer Heritage's Dance Alumni was setup in 2022 by our founder Tamsier Joof to support our professional Seereer dancers develop their craft and ensure their continuous or regular employment.  

 

Coming from a dancer and choreographer background, Tamsier appreciates the difficulties dancers and choreographers in general constantly face in getting and maintaining regular employment. Many dancers live from hand to mouth, and sometimes go on for months without regular employment. The Alumni was thus set to combat this by ensuring that our dancers continue to receive great training from our in-house choreographers and guest choreographers in all the major dance genres as well as the Seereer classics, and through our relationship with our artists, have first right of refusal when job opportunities come along - including music videos, live performances, tours, etc. 

 

During their training, our dancers get to develop their dance, choreographic, and teaching skills, which they can utilise after retiring from professional dance. The dancers also get to learn about physiology and anatomy, as well as the importance of diet in their profession. 

 

All members of the Alumni have gone through a rigorous auditioning process, and are professional dancers in one or more of our projects. Although we have a large pool of highly skilled professional dancers, not all of them make it to the Alumni unless they have been selected by our panel of judges from one of our live auditions to appear in one or more of our projects. In rare instances, unsuccessful candidates may be promoted to Alumni members if we believe they have great potential.  To become a member, please keep an eye on our calendar and social media platforms for our next dance open audtion. Please note that effective December 2022, most our dance auditions will be closed audition and by invitation only. However, if you believe you are the right dancer for us, please send us a link of at least three videos of you dancing. Do not email us your videos as attached files, just send us the URL links including a biography. Our dancers must be extremely versatile, technically brilliant, highly proficient in all th Seereer dances, and possess great stamina and artistry. Acrobatic skills (especially for male dancers) are desirable but not essential.
