Our special tribute to Professor Issa Laye Thiaw


It is with great regret that the Seereer Resource Centre (SRC) and Seereer Radio find themselves having to announce the passing of our colleague and old friend Professor Issa Laye ThiawProfessor Issa Laye Thiaw, also known as Mbañik Caw (his Seereer name, Thiaw is spelled Caw in Seereer) was a brilliant historian and author, and a very proud Seereer and African. A true guardian of Seereer tradition, religion, culture and ethics. He was a gifted and wise man who was always generous with his knowledge and time. The Seereer Community, the Senegambian community, and Africa have lost a great man.

Seereer Heritage Press is the imprint and publishing house of the Seereer Resource Centre (SRC). It is an important part of the SRC's overall model, and helps it in its mission to preserve and promote Seereer heritage by publishing and distributing works relating to Seereer cultural identity. 


Our primary activities are the publication and distribution of print books, e-Books and audio books relating to Seereer history, culture and religion (a ƭat Roog). As well as publishing books which are important to Seereer cultural identity, we also publish history and culture related books about Senegal, The Gambia and Mauritania (the three main countries where the Seereer people are found).


In order to assist the Seereer Resource Centre meet its overall objectives, Seereer Heritage Press has also expanded its role to include the production and distribution of Seereer music. This is to assist Seereer artist who are not getting the support needed in order to bring their music to market, thereby enriching Seereer cultural heritage.
