Biography

Fatou Diambal Thior's live performance in Senegal (2022)

Fatou Diambal Thior (née. Fatou Thior) is a Seereer-Niominka artist originally from Thialane who currently (as of 2022) resides in Dakar. Despite entering the music industry pretty late in life at age 30, Thior has garnered an extensive touring experiencing having toured all over the Senegambia region and Europe, notably France. During her career, Thior worked or collaborated with several notable artists including the late Musa Ngum, the late Thione "Ballago" Seck, Simon Sène, Latyr Faye Ngourané, and up and coming artist Dooman. One of the last tracks (Les Rapaces) released by Thione Seck from his ambitious La Cedeao en chœur project, and shortly before his death on 14 March 2021 was with Thior. The track was uploaded on Ballago TV's official YouTube channel on 7 Jan 2021. On 6 May 2017, Thior participated in the Cosaan Sereer Association of Paris' culural day at La Courneuve.  Thior's style of music is malax, and she is a member and vocalist of the Dioundioung du Sine band. In 2020, during the Coronavirus pandemic, Thior released her single Corona which as the name suggests was a track about the virus, and to sensitize the public to protect themselves and others by following government and scientific guidance in order to halt  the spread of the virus. The track was composed by Thior and featured Adji Fat Sarr who is also from Thialane.

Thior's latest work as of December 2022 is on Seereer Heritage's single Ceereer ne ino mbogun released on 15 December 2022 which is the precursor to the upcoming album Ino mbogu Seereer ne (to be released in 2023). In the single, Thior appears as one of the primary artists following Seereer Heritage's artist auditions held in Kaolack on 27 August 2022. On this single and album, Thior got the opportunity to work with Simon Sène and Latyr Faye Ngourané  again just under a year since their last collaboration on Allez les Lions in February 2022 following Senegal's victory in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations Final. The music video for that track was officially released on the Seereer Resource Centre and Seereer Radio's joint official YouTube channel on 6 February 2022.
