Alhaji Alieu Ebrima Cham Joof
The late Alhaji Alieu Ebrima Cham Joof, more commonly known as Cham Joof (pen name: Alh. A.E. Cham Joof) was a Gambian, historian, author, politician, broadcaster and statesman. During The Gambia's colonial period, he led a series of campaigns against the British colonial administration in order to lobby for The Gambia's independence.
Professor Aliou "Mara" Dione
Professor Aliou Dione, also known as Professor Mara Dione is a Senegalese linguist, historian, researcher and author. He is the first person to to have written the Saafi-Saafi alphabet in the 1980s. He is the founder of UJECUS (Union des Jeunes Etudiants pour la Conservation et l’Unité de l’Ethnie Saafi) which later became ADLAS (Association pour le Développement de la Langue Saafi). The codification of Saafi-Saafi was led by ADLAS.
